PROVINCE REVOKES 2:1 APPRENTICESHIP RATIO

In a Manitoba News Release on 27 March 2024, the provincial government in Manitoba announced that they will be revoking the 2:1 Apprenticeship Ratio that was established in 2021, returning to a 1:1 ratio. The changes to this ratio may increase project costs, will make it more difficult for apprentices to find work under a journeyperson and complete their schooling, especially in rural and northern communities.

CARM will be engaging with the Apprenticeship board, as they will be consulting with the government on the regulation changes and asking them to consider the needs of the construction workforce and the long-term impacts on our ageing workforce.

The Construction Association is disappointed in this announcement and will continue to work with our partner associations to advocate on behalf of the industry in regard to this change.
