A Brandon-based HVAC company
is helping to breathe new
life into a century-old landmark
in the nearby community
of Shilo.
MNK Mechanical is the lead contractor
for a series of HVAC upgrades being
conducted at Canadian Forces Base (CFB)
Shilo. The facility has been a training base
for the Canadian Army since 1910, and the
Department of National Defence began
upgrading much of its aging infrastructure
several years ago.
As part of its contract with the federal
government, MNK Mechanical has
been tasked with upgrades to two existing
buildings on the base: Building P-101, a
trade shop, and Building Q-114, a facility
where practice targets are built for the
Canadian Army. The combined value of
the contract is more than $1 million.
Work on Building P-101 was completed
in late January of this year. The main part
of that job was the replacement of an air
handling unit that was more than 25-yearsold
in the carpentry shop of the building,
which also houses electrical and welding
shops, and included a new make-up air
unit. The company updated the controls
for the ventilation system and installed
new duct work and exhaust fans as part of
the upgrades.
