Adding
to the Board
Meet the new members of CARM’s board of directors
By Rebecca Henderson
For the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba’s
(CARM) board members, becoming one exemplifies
hard work, innovation and leadership within their
respective industries.
Once the Brandon Builders Exchange, before adopting
its current name in 1993, CARM formed through a need for
rural contractors to have a larger voice within the Manitoba
construction industry.
This year, CARM welcomes seven new members to its
board, each with aspirations and visions to enhance the organization.
The new members of CARM leadership are: Spencer
Griffin, Rob Starkell, Michelle Atamanchuk, Justin Bekkering,
Jherrad Cumming, Jeff Williams and Jeff Roziere. Building Rural
Manitoba caught up with these seven leaders to learn about their
industry backgrounds.
Spencer Griffin
Spencer Griffin has helped grow his family’s company, Alternative Landscaping, Ltd., from a very
young age. Starting off as a landscaper, Griffin moved onto mastering the company’s many other
services including excavation, yard care and snow clearing.
This diverse background makes him an excellent manager of operations for the company, which
sees Griffin directing six managers who supervise over 100 employees. One day never mimics the
last for him.
Alternative Landscaping has kept a longstanding relationship with CARM, due to the organization’s
work with local companies. That’s what inspired Griffin to become a board member.
Not to mention a clear role within the construction industry to continue growing the company
in Manitoba.
After 23 years in business, Alternative Landscaping has made a name for itself locally as a business
that cares not only about its employees, but the community as a whole. Griffin brings this
ingrained relationship with the community to CARM, hoping to lead projects, events and other
happenings in Brandon.
