the whole plant shuts downs and all the
contractors come in to do whatever needs
repairing, changing out. It’s a big job and
we will have to work fast since the company
waits four years between turnarounds and
it costs them a lot of money the longer they
are shut down.”
Mulligan’s Electric regularly completes
jobs for Simplot in Portage la Prairie,
McCain Foods in Carberry, Man., projects
for Maple Leaf and Saputo, as well
as various commercial jobs and some
residential projects.
As Rob said, “We are willing to do any
jobs: small, medium and large.”
When asked about major milestones
in the company’s history, Rob immediately
said, “We’re still married!” That is
an accomplishment because it’s not easy
to start, operate and succeed in a new
business as partners at any time, but especially
during a pandemic. However, both
Mulligans have put in the work, personally
and professionally, and the results are
all good.
“In 2020 we became COR-certified,”
said Terri. “There was a lot of work involved
to achieve this – every safety policy and
every safety practice has to be written
to meet the standards of both COR and
legislation, but it opens the door for more
work in the future.”
Rob is proud to mention that for 2021,
Mulligan’s Electric received silver for the
Brandon Sun’s Readers’ Choice Award for
Best Electrical Company in Brandon. “Our
name is getting out there more and more,”
he said.
He attributes much of this to the company
guarantee: Providing quality and
efficient services while working safely.
“We became a member of CARM in 2017,
right after we started up. The association
offers many advantages, especially to a
new company. We’ve met so many people
and made good contacts. Every week,
I meet someone new and hand out our
business card. You never know what might
lead to a life-changing job. That’s a big plus
of membership.”
For a couple of years now, Rob has held
a board member position with CARM and
is the chairman/coordinator of CARM’s
Events standing committee. “Of course, we
haven’t been able to have events this past
year because of the pandemic. I keep scheduling
and then cancelling, but right now
we’re planning our 39th Annual CARM
Golf Tournament at the Wheat City Golf
Course and hoping that will happen.”
Meanwhile, Rob and Terri Mulligan
continue to run their company out of
their house, contemplating someday
moving into a standalone office as their
work gets bigger and bigger. Or maybe
not. Maybe working across the desk from
each other in their home office plays an
important part in the success of these
two hard-working entrepreneurs in both
business and in life. n
