Construction Association of Rural Manitoba Inc, Private Policy

 

As of January 1, 2004, all businesses engaged in commercial activities must comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and the Canadian Standards Association Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information which it incorporates.


The Construction Association of Rural Manitoba Inc. respects your personal privacy. We appreciate your concern about your personal information, and believe ensuring the security of your personal information is an important part of our job. We strive to protect any personal information you give to C.A.R.M. If we ask you to provide us with any personal information we will tell you the purposes for which we intend to use that information. We will not collect, use, or disclose your personal information without your consent. We collect no personal information about you unless you choose to provide that information to us. We do not use techniques that collect personal information about you without your knowledge. Your personal information is not sold to anyone for any purpose.

The Construction Association of Rural Manitoba Inc. collects information about its members through its membership application form, available in both a paper and Web-based format, and does so to fulfill the objectives and mandate of the Association. C.A.R.M.'s objectives involves, among other things, communicating with and determining the needs of its membership, providing services, information and products to its members, and permitting affiliated organizations, preferred suppliers and consumers, to provide services, information, products to our members, or allow consumers to contact our members to request price quotes and other information about their services and products. If a member consents, his/her contact information shall be used for these purposes. Contact information is the information provided by you to us on the Membership Application and Trades Category form, eg. member's name, company name, address, telephone number, cell number, fax number, email address, website address and trade categories.

This information will be available on our website, annual Membership Roster and Buyer's Guide and upon request to affiliated organizations, preferred suppliers and purchasers. If a member does not consent, then his/her contact information shall be used by C.A.R.M. for purposes of communicating with the member only and shall not be provided to anyone else.


CARM may also collect information from its members through registration forms for a variety of programs including, but not limited to, Education and Training Programs, meetings and other professional developmental activities. It does so to fulfill its objectives and mandate.


CARM will provide membership information on a limited basis to suppliers, consumers, affiliated organizations and others when:


1. In the opinion of C.A.R.M. such usage constitutes a service and the information is pertinent to the members of CARM

2. CARM has the written agreement from those receiving the information that they will adhere to specific requirements with respect to their use of such information.

Under certain circumstances CARM will disclose your personal information without consent:

  • when we are required by law to do so

 

  • where it is necessary to establish or collect fees

 

  • we engage a third party to provide administrative services to us (ie. Computer back-up services or archival file storage) and the third party is then bound by our privacy policy.

 

  • if the information is already publicly known.

 

CARM will retain personal information provided to it only for so long as it is required for the purposes stated above.


CARM endeavours to maintain the accuracy of any information about members in its possession.

A visitor to CARM's Website is not required to reveal any individually identifiable information, such as name, address, or telephone number. Nor is such information collected passively by electronic means.

Our Web server does not collect visitor information in the form of the visitor's domain or Internet Protocol (IP) address but does collect information regarding which pages are accessed. This information is used internally, only in aggregate form, to better serve visitors by helping us to:

1. manage our sites


2. diagnose any technical problems; and


3. improve the content of our website.

Following its use, the information collected is not retained but, rather, is discarded in a secure manner.

This information is collected for billing and delivery purposes as well as to permit us to contact you with respect to actions taken by us to complete your order.

The 10 Principles of our Privacy Code

8. Openness: We will make specific, understandable information readily available to you about our privacy policies.


9. Individual Access: When requested we will give you access to the existence, use, and disclosure of your information. You are entitled to question its accuracy and its uses.


10. Challenging Compliance: You are entitled to question the Privacy Officer about our compliance with any of these principles.


Limiting Consent


At any time, you can request in writing to us by mail, fax or personally delivering, to limit the uses and disclosures of your personal information.


If you do not limit or withdraw your consent, we will assume that we have your consent for the continued use of your personal information for purposes described in this Policy.


This policy is in effect from January 1, 2004. CARM will from time to time review and revise its privacy practices and this Policy.
